RameyBasketball Fall League 5th-8th Grade Week 1 Recap

We returned to the RameyBasketball Fall League on the second day of the opening week to watch the 5th-8th grade teams. Our staff was treated to high level performances throughout the day.  Here are some of the top players that caught my eye.

Kenny Lahai-Pumagoi 2025- Pumagoi is the type of lead guard that can immediately earn the favor of a coach. Kenny displays a court IQ beyond his age. His on-the-floor leadership coupled with an understanding of ball movement and spacing gave his team room to work and lead them to a sizable advantage over their competition. Pumagoi scored 17pts in the contest.

Nicholas Randall 2025- Randall has good size for his position. As a 6th grader, he is already approaching six feet with good arm length. Nicholas has impeccable timing on blocked shots and relishes the opportunity to protect the rim by playing “bat man.” Randall has a high motor and is not afraid to do the dirty work to help his team secure the win. Randall scored 13 pts.

Montreal Stacker 2025- Stacker is a rugged competitor. Montreal stays in attack mode and eventually commanded a double team to slow him down. Stacker plays with a sense of urgency and possesses the mental toughness to take his game to the next level.

Christian Williams 2025- The kid with the Instagram name “Mighty Mouse” lived up the moniker Sunday. During the game, I couldn’t help but wonder how this little fella could hurl cross court passes and place them right on the money. Besides his pinpoint passes, Williams is lightning quick, shoots it consitcan score the ball, and has a terrific offensive tool set. Williams finished with 10pts and had a number of assists.

Jordan Pickett 2023- “It’s too easy,” was heard a lot from the stands when Pickett had the ball. And for Jordan, it was too easy. The kid can flat out play. Pickett drove and finished with ease. He is a  consistent scoring threat in the midrange, dangerous heading downhill and shrewd in ferreting out the weaknesses of his opponent.

Barry Thomas 2023- Thomas is fun to watch when he turns it on. Barry can serve it up from the perimeter or with slicing basket drives. Barry tends to feed off the aggressive energy of his opponents. The slender guard is a lean, mean scoring machine that turns on when the right button is pressed.

Jayden Nicholson 2023- If you’re looking for a “diaper dandy,” we found him for you. The 6’4 Nicholson can run the floor, pat the rock, and finish through contact. The not-so-gentle giant also sports baby soft hands, next level footwork and a fine set of finishing moves. Jayden torched his opponent for 22pts Sunday.

Travis Green III 2023- You would have been hard pressed to find another player that competed with as much passion as Green. Travis is a fiery competitor with a nice skill set. He can score from around the perimeter, make good decisions, finish through contact, and fire up the troops.

Jordan Williams 2023- Williams is one of the best scoring guards in his class. Jordan is the type of player that you would like to see with the ball in his hand during clutch time. Williams is a smooth and poised finisher that can punish you from the perimeter or off the dribble. Williams made key baskets throughout the contest but did so without forcing or hunting for his shot.
